Statement of Faith

Homeschool Community Co-op of Everett (Washington)
Policy Statements

Statement of Purpose

The purpose of HCCE is to aid and support the families of homeschooled children.  We believe it to be the parents responsibility to train their children in a godly manner and therefore fulfill the scriptures of Proverbs 22:6 and Deuteronomy 6:5-9.  We seek to provide an atmosphere that will foster this training and that will glorify the Lord Jesus Christ in all we say and do.  We also believe the co-op experience to be just as much for the mom’s (and dad’s) as it is for the kids.  We strive to create and maintain the co-op family experience that encourages and uplifts each other in our homeschooling journey.

Statement of Faith

We Believe:

  1. Bible.  We believe that the Bible is the Word of God; without error as originally written.  Its content has been preserved by Him and is the final authority in all manners of doctrine and faith - above all human authority.  John 17:17, 2 Tim.3:16, Heb. 4:12, 2 Peter 1:20-21, 2 Peter 3:15-16

    2.   God.  We believe there is no God but one: the infinite Designer, Creator, and Sustainer of
All existence in this or any universe - from eternity past to eternity future.  God’s nature is
Triune - three perfect and eternal persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - who are one, in
Being and in purpose. John 1:1-3, 8:23-24, 10:30, Col. 1:16-19

    3.   Jesus.  We believe that God, the Son, entered the world as a man to die on the cross on
our behalf; a sinless sacrifice in full payment of all our sin - both past and future - satisfying
the Demand of God’s perfect justice.  Jesus rose from the grave; authenticating His divine
Identity, as our living Prophet, Priest, and King.  John 1:1-3, 1:14, Isa.9:16, Matt.1:21-23,
           Heb. 1:1-3, Heb. 4:14-15, Heb. 10:10-18

    4.   Forgiveness.  Based on the penalty paid at the cross, we believe that the forgiveness of
Sins is granted by grace alone to those who receive it by faith alone.  It must be received
As an utterly undeserved gift or it cannot be received at all:  because all credit and glory
          Are Christ’s alone.  Isa. 1:18, Romans 3:20-28, Romans 4:16, 4:22-25, Romans 6:23

Facility Use Guidelines

  1. The church’s consumable supplies are not for co-op use.  Any non-consumable items (coffee pots, toys, etc.) are used only by permission granted and agreed upon in our bi-annual contract.
  2. Food, drink, and snacks are not allowed in the Sanctuary.  Water is the only exception.
  3. We are to leave the facility clean - floors vacuumed or swept and mopped, lights and heat turned off, bathrooms cleaned, garbages emptied, counters wiped down.
  4. No Playdough
  5. No burning of materials, or exploding science projects, in the building.

Participation Policy

All parents participating in HCCE must have a valid background check in order to attend.

Parents/Guardians must remain on site with their children at all times.  The co-op is a place that depends on parental participation.  It is not a drop-off facility.

Since co-op cannot function without the dependable participation of all families involved, please plan on no more that two planned absences per term. Please note on your registration form the dates you will not be attending.

If there is an illness or some reason arises that you cannot attend co-op, please contact the attendance coordinator.

Co-op begins at 8:45 in the Chapel.  Please make every effort to arrive on time.  Chapel is a time where we share important announcements and any changes in our schedule.  While we understand that life gets in the way at times, it is important to us that you attend and try to be on time.

Students must remain in class for the full class period, no early dismissals. Students must remain in groups of no less than three unless adults are present.

Adults are never to be alone in a classroom with students.  There must be two or more at all times.  In the event that we are shorthanded due to absences, and we cannot fully staff classrooms, we may either combine classes or the classroom door must remain open.  This is to protect you, not just the kids.

Each family with a child in 6th-12th grade will be assigned 1-2 weeks to clean the facility.  The kids are the ones to clean, the adults (one will be appointed as supervisor) will help and focus the kids on cleaning tasks.  Many hands make the burden light.

Each family may also be appointed as lunchtime monitors.  The lunch monitors are responsible for supervising the kids on the playground.

Lunchtime Policy

If your child needs regular supervision, regardless of age, please supervise them yourself; do not rely on the lunchtime monitor to police them.  They must supervise many children and cannot focus on just one.  Your child is your responsibility.

If a child does not respond to the lunch monitor, the child may returned to the parent.

The upstairs (at HCCE) is off limits during lunch.  Lunchtime areas are the fellowship/kitchen area and the playground.

Playing in and around the vehicles is not allowed.

Dress Code

Without making this too complicated, here are some guidelines to follow for both kids and parents -

  1. If it is an undergarment, it must remain so.  No bra straps, underwear, etc.
  2. No cleavage.  No low-rise pants that reveal more than we want to see.

In a nutshell, cover up.  If can raise your hands and see mid-section, wear a longer shirt.  If you bend over and your front or backside is exposed, wear a longer shirt. Leggings are great beneath skirts.   No short shorts.

Discipline Policy

We expect our students to be respectful to their teachers and each other.  But since we know that they are kids, and they are going to mess up at times, the following steps are in place and will be enforced if the need arises.

  1. First Offense - the student receives a clear warning from either the teacher, assistant, or lunch monitor.  Always be loving, grace filled, but firm.
  2. Second Offense - the student is removed from class, or playground, and must remain with his or her parent for the remaining time.
  3. Third Offense - the student and parent will have a meeting with the Advisory Team and the teacher. This is a time to discuss if the student wants to remain in class and is willing to change his/her behavior.  If the student wishes to return to class the following week, he/she will be expected to follow the guidelines.  If the situation does not improve and continues, the student will be removed from co-op for the remainder of the session.

We are a grace-filled co-op.  Every week is a new week, and every session is a new session.  We will, and want, to extend grace to everyone at co-op and really do not want to have to enact these guidelines,  but we also know that there is a time and a place for them.  We will not hold grudges or think less of a child who is struggling.

Conflict Policy

We have a zero tolerance in the case of physical behavior /abuse at co-op.  In the event that an issue does arise between two or more students, the following steps will be taken -

  1. No warning, immediate removal of students involved from class, or playground.  They will remain with parents for the remainder of the day.
  2. All parties will meet separately with their own parents, the instructor, and the Advisory Team to resolve the issue.
  3. If the students wish to return to class the following week, they must agree to follow the guidelines of co-op.
  4. If another violation occurs, the students will again be removed and an appointment will be arranged with the Advisory Team.  This required meeting must take place before the student can return to co-op.

Conflict Resolution

In the case that an issue arises between students (or between adults), either on the playground or in class, we encourage our parents to go to each other to work out a solution.  Usually these small issues can be resolved by simply going to each other, in grace and love, and working it out, before involving the Leadership of co-op.

While we are here to keep our co-op running smoothly, we really do not want to have to enact the discipline policy if we do not have to.  In the event that you do not feel comfortable going to the other parent, by all means, come talk to us and we will go with you.

Cell Phone Policy

Students - No cell phone use in class, UNLESS the teacher authorizes it.  The teacher has the authority to take the cell phone for the duration of class if you are using it without permission.

Adults - Please have your phone on either silent or vibrate.  Please limit your usage to important phone calls or texts.  If you need to take a call, please step into the hallway to minimize distractions.

Wellness Policy

Please do not bring your child to co-op if he/she has any of the following:

-Temperature of 100 degrees or higher
- Green discharge from the nose
- “Pink Eye”
-An unidentified rash, especially accompanied by a fever.
-Vomiting or diarrhea
-A productive cough with a fever
-A sore throat with a fever.

Rule of thumb, child should be symptom free for 24 hours before attending co-op.  As we all know, your child may become ill while at co-op, feel free to take your child home for the day.  We will make any necessary adjustments to cover for you.

Snow Days (If we are ever that lucky)

HCCE follows the Everett School District’s Snow Policy.  If Everett schools are closed or delayed, we will not meet.

For those who live in outlying areas, or just cannot make it in the event of snow, please contact the Attendance Coordinator ASAP.

Last, but certainly not least,  THANK YOU for teaching and volunteering.  YOU make our co-op amazing!!
